A controversial preacher in Zimbabwe has reportedly claimed that God is 'evil,' commits sin and therefore needs a prophet like him to remain righteous. According to zimeye.net, Emmanuel Makandiwa claimed during an Easter sermon that God was about to commit sin and was only saved by prophet Moses. Makandiwa is reported to have said: "Some of you do not understand how God respects the office of the prophet." Makandiwa is said to have used scriptures written in old Elizabethan English to justify his claim that God regularly needs instructions from prophets. However, NAIJ.com gathered that his claims have drawn the ire of Zimbabwe's Christians, many of whom have condemned him.

Gabriel Manyangadze, a pastor with the Dutch Reformed Church in Harare, said Makandiwa was mistaken and had failed to "interpret the simple canon of scripture." On social media, more Christians poured scorn on Makandiwa's claims. Hilda Tendai said: "Oh no! It's scary! Blasphemy! What? My first time to hear that God can sin! Actually, please I don't want to believe I just heard this man saying these evil words!" Another commenter, Lovemore Evans Matsvai said: "This is the height of heresy. It's time to flee from this man. I used to listen to all his sermons but the devil seems to have won him to his side. How do you teach God righteousness when he is the author and standard?"
