Lai Mohammed makes shocking revelation in China

The minister of information, culture and tourism, Lai Mohammed on Thursday, June 23, said out of the 54 countries in Africa, only two have successfully transited the digital broadcasting. Speaking at the sixth African Digital TV Development Seminar in Beijing, China, Mohammed said the remaining 52 countries are at the various stages of transition. The minister said all the African information ministers present at the seminar have also agreed on the need for all African nations to face the transition challenge together.n

He stressed that this will enable the countries attain success in meeting the deadline for the digital switch over from analog broadcasting. ‘’I am happy to inform this audience that the Ministers held an exploratory meeting here in Beijing on Tuesday – on the sidelines of the 3rd Forum on China-Africa Media Cooperation – in furtherance of this agreement,’’ he said. Commending his African minister, Mohmammed said the “Pan African solidarity” will not only improve our chances of achieving a successful transition, but will also open a new outlook of cooperation in other areas, for the benefit of all our peoples. Mohammed also commended the organizers of the event for a continuous tradition of providing a forum for advancing the cause of digital television development in Africa. He said: “We are confident because we, as a government, have the political will to drive the transition process. The international deadline for digital broadcasting transition is June 2017 for all African countries. While Nigeria has missed the first deadline, the minister has overtime said he is convinced that the country will not miss this new deadline.
