A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) known as APC Akida has appointed its leaders at the state level. The group has been operating in Kaduna for a while but has decided to come out in full force with the appointment of state executives. Mr Tom Maiyashi emerged as convener, Alhaji Ibrahim Yaro became deputy convener and Hafsat M. Baba was made secretary of the APC Akida. The new faction said its executives at all state level will soon be named.
Maiyashi said APC Akida will serve as an avenue and for active members of the APC to work for the progress of the party in the state. Notable persons at the meeting include Senator Shehu Sani and Hakeem Baba-Ahmed The party convener said the faction was established because the APC had been hijacked by powerful people in the state and there was need to protect their legitimate interest. He claimed the APC Akida was neither a faction nor an alternative party structure as the group was committed to seeing that the APC-led government in the state worked successfully for the people. Although the group claimed not to be a faction of the APC in its structure, its development is similar to the rise of the New Peoples Democratic Party that emerged before the general elections and later joined the APC.
