Members of the All Progressives Congress committee in Benue State narrowly escaped death after they were attacked by some suspected hoodlums in Ohimini LGA of the state. A chieftain of the party, John Ikwulono said trouble started when Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Onoja Lawrence Okpe arrived the local council with the committee. According to him, on reaching the gate, some youths barricaded the place and refused to open gate for both the committee and the commissioner who accompanied the members.
“Suddenly, youths were cutting log of woods, shooting sporadically into the air and stoning the Benue links bus that conveyed us,” he said. The Chairman of the committee took instant decision and asked the driver to move away from Ohimini which he did.” He recalled that Chairman of the local government was helpless as he could not handle the situation; ditto the policemen who were on ground. “Though he pleaded and apologized for the committee to continue, we could not,” Ikwulono added.
