The proposed merger between Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Accord party (AP) in Oyo stated has collapsed. The failure of PDP’s national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff to visit Ibadan, the Oyo state was said to be the reason for the failed merger. Former governor Rasheed Ladoja is the leader of Accord party and was the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2015 governorship election while Senator Teslim Folarin was PDP’s candidate at the poll. Also, individual ambition of some leaders of both parties have been fingered to be cause of the failed merger.

While others were working towards rebuilding the party, one of the major leaders is bent on flying the party’s flag as the governorship candidate in 2019. Another party leader, it was gathered, is patronising Accord leader Rashidi Ladoja and promising juicy positions to Accord members when the deal is struck. “Don’t let me deceive you. I don’t see it working. They (Oyo PDP leaders) have not been able to prevail on one of them to drop his ambition,” a source involved in the deal was quoted.
