The court of appeal has affirmed the sack of 16 out of 32 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had filed various appeals, challenging the nullification of their elections by the Election Petition Tribunal. The lawmakers lost their appeals to candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Court of Appeal in its judgment held that the election that brought the affected lawmakers to power did not substantially comply with the Electoral law. More cases are yet to be decided at the Court of Appeal.
