Dec 5 Governorship Election: Police Deploy Armoured Tanks In Bayelsa

Ahead of the December 5 governorship election in Bayelsa State, Scores of Armoured Personnel Carriers were seen moving into Yenagoa, the state capital on Saturday and Sunday morning. The Bayelsa State Police Command on Sunday says security had been strengthened to ensure that the poll does not experience any hitches. This is just as the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, is set to visit the oil-rich state on Tuesday.

Speaking with a correspondent of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yenagoa, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Asinim Butwat, said, “The Inspector General of Police, Mr Soloman Arase, is expected in Bayelsa on Tuesday to address officers and men deployed for election duty." The state Commissioner of Police, Nasiru Oki, had disclosed that about 9,000 policemen would be deployed for the governorship election.
