Senate Commences Fresh Constitution Review

A 38-man committee has been constituted by the Nigerian Senate to commence a fresh process of amending the 1999 constitution. While announcing The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki while announcing the setting up of the committee during Tuesday’s plenary in Abuja, said, the committee would be headed by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

Saraki who averred that constitution amendment remains a priority of the eighth senate, urged members of the committee to gather facts from stakeholders within the country as part of the process. He also charged them to concentrate on matters that would de-emphasis recurrent expenditure. He said,“With the composition of the committee, the senate has set the stage for the activities leading to the delivery of better governance to our people,” “The work already carried out by the seventh senate has made the job of the new committee easier.”
