Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday night attempted to take over Gulak, the administrative headquarters of Madagali in northern part of Adamawa State, when the sect members engaged Nigerian troops in a fierce gun battle, killing one soldier. According to security and local sources, the insurgents came around 7 p.m. in three vehicles and started firing on the soldiers during which the soldiers ran away. The terrorists, it was learnt, burnt down a military base as they also burnt down three artilleries and carted away guns.

James Ularamu, former chairman of Madagali said, “There was pandemonium, people scampered for their lives, many slept in bushes." He added that “Our local vigilantes had tried by staying back, until another troops were deployed from Madagali town and Shuwa, they engaged them, if not they would have recaptured the town for the second time.” A member representing the area at the house of Representatives, Adamu Kamale, confirmed the attack. He, however said he did not have “much details for now”.
