The deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, yesterday, warned President Muhammadu Buhari that the Senate would no longer tolerate the undermining of the red chamber by him. Ekweremadu who disclosed this at plenary said, a situation whereby Buhari's appointees assumed duty before confirmation by the hallowed chamber clearly shows the president's disregard for the Senate. The Deputy Senate President made reference to Garba Danbatta who assumed duty as the vice-chairman of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) on August 4, before he was confirmed yesterday by the Senate.

Ekweremadu said, “The senate takes exception to undermining its powers,” he said at plenary on Thursday. “In future appointments that require senate confirmation we believe that the president will do us the honour and give us the due respect of getting confirmation of the senate before his appointees assume duty.” The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki also supported the submission of Ekweremadu. He added that the red chamber would no longer allow a situation in which Buhari's appointees assume duty without being confirmed.
