Prof. Attahiru Jega, the immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has disclosed he could have secured a second term in office, if he wanted, following the success of the 2015 general elections.

The former chairman of the electoral body who revealed this at the at the London School of Economics, LSE, on Tuesday, said he, however, chose to resist the temptation in order to strengthen the commission. The Professor of Political Science, who left INEC on June 30 at the expiration of his tenure, went on to highlight the challenges of the elections and how they were faced, saying the politicians were caught unawares by the elections as the commission was a step ahead of them.
