The South-East region of Nigeria has said, it is not contended with President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Dr. Ibe Kachikwu who is from the Igbo-speaking part of Delta State, to head the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, a former Governor of Anambra State in the defunct Third Republic, said the plum position did not erase the alleged lopsidedness of President Buhari’s appointments so far.

He wondered how a President would appoint people into key positions in Nigeria, and none of them was Igbo. The former governor said, as far as merit and motivation is concerned, the Southeast has the best people in the country adding that the region will not beg Buhari for appointments if he decides to ignore federal character. Ezeife further expressed displeasure at the development in the House of Representatives, where every region except the South-East got a principal position.
