Barely 24 hours after President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Ibrahim Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar met at Babangida’s hilltop residence, in Minna, we have gathered that facts have started emerging from the meeting of the three former head of states. According to sources close to Babangida who spoke to us, the three former presidents discussed the health status of President Muhammad Buhari. The source also revealed that the meeting was called by former President Obasanjo and Minna was chosen as the meeting venue.
We also learnt that the former presidents discussed about the arrest and detention of some former People Democratic Party (PDP) governors by security operatives and also, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to the source, the former Nigerian presidents are concerned about the heated polity as a result of the arrest of many former governors at the same time. The source said: “You know Sule Lamido and Babangida Aliyu are very close to Obasanjo and you know that recently, former Senate President, David Mark publicly expressed grave concern over the continued detention of his former governor, Suswam, by the Department of State Services (DSS) on allegations of being in possession of illegal fire arms. We also learnt that the meeting was expected to have in attendance former Minister of Defence, General Theophilius Danjuma who was absent eventually.
